MCF Holiday Party

Here are some photos of botanical pieces I created for the Metalcraft Fabrication Holiday Event (metalcraftfabrication.com).  I focused on creating living arrangements that could be permanent fixtures in the office or be given away to guests/employees at the event.  A large container topiary and centerpiece were highlighted (not pictured).  I will be posting additional photos of the event  in the near future.  I was particularly excited about the “Living Letters” I created (MCF each 18″ tall) that will be permanent fixtures in the office entry.  I think these letters would be beautiful in a child’s bedrooms or at weddings.

Jennifer Baque put on an amazing event.  It was a fabulous evening that I was excited to be a part of… a good time was surely had by all!!!

“It’s So Gorgeous”

The following is an excerpt from an e-mail I recently received from a client.  I designed a custom CAD landscape plan for this client, helped oversee installation, provided plant procurement, layout, and furnishing services.  The installation of my design was completed by Fiddlehead Landscapes.

Kristien,

I wanted to let you know that we got all the plants in this weekend
and our yard looks so amazing.  I cannot believe that it belongs to
us!

Here’s the link to our picasa album if you want to see how it turned
out. There are a lot of photos, but if you just go to the end and look
at the photos labeled Day 10, you can see the yard with all the plants
planted.

Thank you for everything.  We could not be happier with how it turned out.

Railyard Public Garden

In June, I had the opportunity to escape the not yet summer weather of the Pacific Northwest for a long weekend of sun, laughter, and old friends in Santa FE, NM.  A highlight of the trip was a visit to the revitalized Railyard District.  Here are a few photos from the incredible public garden that hums the train tracts that once laid in its place.

JAI!

I recently had the opportunity to create an entrance garden design for my yoga teacher.  As I began the design process the question ~ “How do I create a garden for the person who opened my eyes and got me hooked on this infinitely beautiful and life changing practice?” Quite literally my design focus was to move/shift the space physically and emotionally.  #1) Give the users of the hardscape elements room to move and breathe #2) Give the plants room to move and breathe (a blend of a swaying naturalized meadow and a part-shade woodland bio-swale habitat).

For the steps/pathway I specified Corteen steel frames filled with ¼- gravel.  The steel frames were built by Daniel Beca (www.bacametal.com) who I am very excited to work with in the future.  The landscape installation was by my buddies Mark & Dave with Fiddlehead Landscapes.  The planting was a collaboration of Lisa Mae and her fabulous friends. Namaste!

In Progress…

Another fantastic client and fun job…I am so lucky.  The client’s requests for this project were as follows:  new and wider driveway, no lawn, low maintenance plants, and a rain garden.  The clients also mentioned they liked to have their morning coffee on the front steps so I decided to make a larger front porch for chairs etc.  Still to come (COLOR!!!),house paint, furniture, and container gardens.  Concrete and stonework installation by Pete Wilson Stoneworks and landscape installation by Fiddlehead Landscapes.  More photos to come…

Recent Install

I just finished working with a super sweet  family in Sellwood.  I have had the pleasure of working with this client for several years and was so excited to see the design come into fruition.  When we first met to discuss what they wanted out of their landscape the words that followed were: peaceful, natural, relaxing, sustainable and playful.  They also wanted to grow as many edibles as possible and have specific growing beds for their two young children to learn and experiment with the art of growing food.

My first mission was to remove expansive concrete (front and side yard) and an awkward deck (backyard).  I also wanted to create a more inviting entrance to the front door.  The front path (old concrete that led to concrete stairs on the east side of front porch) was deconstructed and replaced with a curvaceous irregular bluestone path that flows through the front garden to the center of the porch and up a new basalt staircase.  A raingarden anchors the front garden and collects the homes storm water runoff.

The part-shade backyard provides an open gravel patio for entertaining that is nestled away from the expansive shared driveway and large garage.  An intimate circular patio was added into the backyard as an additional space for relaxing in the garden.  The backyard is primarily planted with Northwest natives including an evergreen huckleberry hedge and many native ferns.
